Interesting facts about Adlyxin

  • Adlyxin should not be used to treat people with type 1 diabetes or patients with increased ketones in their blood or urine (diabetic ketoacidosis).
  • Evaluation of lixisenatide in Acute Coronary Syndrome (ELIXA) trial showed no benefit on cardiovascular outcomes with lixisenatide.
  • Adlyxin is called Lyxumia in more than 60 countries.

What are the side effects of Adlyxin?

The most common adverse reactions (> 5%) are:

  • nausea (25%)
  • vomiting (10%)
  • headache (9%)
  • diarrhea (8%)
  • dizziness (7%)
  • hypoglycemia (2 to 47% when combined with other diabetes medications)

Other adverse reactions (>2%):

  • dyspepsia (indigestion) (3.2%)
  • constipation (2.8%)
  • abdominal distension (2.2%)
  • abdominal pain (2.2%)

Serious adverse reactions:

  • pancreatitis
  • serious allergic reactions
  • kidney failure 
  • antibodies to lixisenatide

What is the dosage of Adlyxin?

Adlyxin is a clear solution for subcutaneous injection that is available as:

50 mcg/mL in 3 mL in green prefilled pen

100 mcg/mL in 3 mL in burgundy prefilled pen 

The starting dose of Adlyxin is 10 mcg injected under the skin (subcutaneously) f the abdomen, thigh or upper arm once daily within one hour before the first meal of the day, for 14 days. The dose is increased to the maintenance dose of 20 mcg once daily starting on Day 15.

How to store Adlyxin?

Adlyxin should be stored in a refrigerator between 36 to 46F (2 to 8 C) prior to initial use. It should not be frozen and the prefilled pen should be kept in the original packet to protect it from light. Store pens that are in use below 86°F (30°C). The pen cap should be replaced after each use to protect it from light and the pen should be discontinued 14 days after first use.
