Weight & Diet in winter

Many people seem to have difficulty maintaining their weight in the winter. When it is cold and miserable outside, it is normal to just want to sit inside and eat your favorite treats. But if you do this for too long, you will pack on the pounds before you know it. Even though it can be difficult to stay in shape during the winter, you have to do what it takes to avoid gaining weight. Here are some tips for maintaining your weight in the winter.

Examine Your Eating Habits

The first thing you should do is examine your eating habits. Pay attention more to what you eat and how much you are eating. Then, determine if these eating habits are different from the ones you had back in the summer. If they are different, think about which habits helped you lose or maintain your weight in the summer. For example, you could have eaten fruit for dessert instead of high-calorie cakes or cupcakes. Write these habits down in a journal so that you can maintain them in the winter.

Do not Stop Exercising

Although it is much easier to exercise in the summer, you should not stop working out once the temperatures drop. Exercising on a regular basis will help your metabolism run faster so that you burn more calories. Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes five days a week. There are plenty of exercises you can perform in the living room including crunches, lunges, pushups, squats, jumping jacks and planks.

Weigh Yourself Every Week

If you want to maintain your weight during the winter, it is a good idea to weigh yourself every week. If you see that you are putting on weight, you can take care of it immediately. For the most accurate weight reading, weigh yourself in the morning.

Eat Breakfast Each Day

It is true that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you eat a healthy and filling breakfast, you will feel much less hungry throughout the day. For example, if you eat some oatmeal, a cup of blueberries and yogurt for breakfast, you will feel full and energized for hours.

Do not Keep Junk Food in the House

Most people stay inside more in the winter, which can lead to boredom. Being bored can cause some people to reach in the cupboard for some chips or cookies. This is why you definitely should not keep junk food in the house during the winter. When you are sitting on the couch with nothing to do, you are bound to reach for something unhealthy to eat. Instead, fill your kitchen with more healthy snacks like fruits, vegetables and unsalted pretzels. These types of snacks will keep you energized but will not cause you to pack on the pounds.

Maintaining your weight in the winter might not always be easy, but it can be done. You just have to be willing to put the effort in and say no to foods that are not good for you.
