How To Use Social Media To Improve Pharmacy And Pharmacy Education Category: Pharmacy by - August 23, 2013 | Views: 57237 | Likes: 1 | Comment: 0

We previously published results of our survey of University of Florida pharmacy students and faculty about their use of social media. We also asked them for ideas on how social media can be used to amplify the voice of pharmacy, shape perception of the pharmacy profession, or enhance pharmacy education. Here are some of the comments that were provided.

Social media, pharmacy, and pharmacy education

You can rapidly communicate ideas to a large number of people with very little effort. The power of numbers cannot be denied.

I am part of a couple of pharmacy-themed Facebook groups that share knowledge while in pharmacy school in matters involving the curriculum. I feel that the same idea can be applied to patient education for patients that need assistance with their medication or need help involving their health care.

Social media makes sharing information, ideas, messages, and opinions easier and more accessible. It targets a more involved audience in a casual setting so people are more receptive to the messages.

Right now, I receive alerts about pharmacy profession through school's email. This is okay, but I believe this can be supplemented using social media. We have a Facebook page for our class that we the students set up. It solidifies groups and puts everyone on the same page. I signed a petition regarding pharmacists becoming healthcare professionals, but this as said before was found out through email.

In our college, we used to provide additional information for a make-believe patient case. It was very interesting.

It can increase the ease of communication, bring ideas to one place for discussion. Facebook groups could be used to link classmates.
