In 2011, I remembered receiving an unexpected phone call from a colleague
from my alma mater. He told me that he started a professional healthcare
social network. I was excited to hear about his new venture and extremely
curious. Later that day, I read through a few articles, job postings, and
discussions. I signed up immediately. In the past 2 years, my career
benefited from this website that no other websites or networking
opportunity ever did for me.
Writing was my passion yet I struggled with it. I could not find an
audience except in the confines of my own hospital. To add insult to
injury, I presented a paper at the CSHP seminar, which drew in a small
crowd of 20 people to my display. Dr. Ogbru told me that publishing was
much easier with his platform. We spoke weekly on topics of possible
interest and soon, I submitted my first article. Within days, it was
published and received over 200 views in the first 3 days. Amazing! I was
so thrilled about the increased visibility and feedback from readers that I
wrote more. Since joining, RxEconsult I have published over 40 articles
each averaging over 1,000 views.
Networking on RxEconsult was much more successful than attending
conferences. RxEconsult had the ability to connect readers to the author
and vice versa. Members had the opportunity to read about each other’s
profile, request to be a contact, and the rest is up to members.
Personally, I met several members who I greatly admire. They were not just
pharmacists or physicians. They were entrepreneurs, artists, fitness
enthusiasts, and passionate about making their patients better.
RxEconsult is filled with brief articles of various topics, great job
opportunities, and stimulating discussions. Every healthcare professional
should have an outlet where they can read about what’s new in their field,
be able to write an article that can make an impact in their profession,
and reach out to others for advice. It should be done all at the same place
with one login.
